01 / ISLANDS TO GET TO KNOW

Ocean.
Volcanoes.
Your kind of people.

Wake up on a yacht. Spend the day in a laurel forest or above the clouds. Come back to the ocean, dinner and music.

The Canaries are volcanic islands in the Atlantic. Black beaches meet green ravines, lava fields and small fishing harbours. We explore by sea and on land, with time left for swimming, conversation and sleep.

No experience needed. We will show you how to be part of the crew and handle the sails. A separate offshore course is available if you would like more practice.

02 / OUR COURSE

Three islands.
Time to explore.

Our main loop is Tenerife, La Gomera, La Palma and back to Tenerife. We choose the order of passages around the weather.

Possible alternative

An itinerary overview, not a nautical chart. Coastlines: Natural Earth.
More time on La Gomera this year

Gran Canaria is an option if a suitable weather window opens. We will most likely spend longer on La Gomera and, conditions permitting, explore western La Palma. Gran Canaria is an alternative that changes the programme, rather than another guaranteed island in the same week.

03 / THE WEEK'S RHYTHM

How we will spend
our days

This is a guide, not a fixed timetable. Sailing and shore days may change places. We keep a buffer at the end of the week.

2 JanuaryMeet in Tenerife

Get to know your yacht

Fly into Tenerife South and head to Marina del Sur in Las Galletas. Settle in, buy provisions, get familiar with life on board and join the briefing. We get to know one another over dinner. Our first departure follows yacht and crew preparation.

3 JanuaryUnder sail to La Gomera

Our first ocean day

Leave Tenerife astern and sail towards La Gomera. Take turns at the helm, get to know the sails and watch the ocean: dolphins and whales may be out there. In the evening we explore San Sebastián and have dinner ashore.

4 JanuaryLa Gomera at an easy pace

A whole day ashore

Hire cars and head into laurel forests and green ravines. Walk the trails, stop at viewpoints and explore small towns. This year we want to give La Gomera time: to be on the island, rather than glimpse it between passages.

5 JanuaryOnwards to La Palma

An Atlantic passage

A full day at sea, with watches, sail handling and time to look at the horizon. Offshore students can practise navigation and interpreting the weather. Our port and side of the island depend on the wind and ocean swell.

6 JanuaryLa Palma by sea and land

A volcanic island

Explore lava landscapes and mountain roads. The Isaac Newton observatory and the night sky remain part of our plans. We may explore the western coast too. We choose our return departure around the forecast and may leave that evening.

7 JanuaryBack towards Tenerife

Sea time and a weather buffer

We leave this day for the return passage and recovery afterwards. If we arrive early and conditions allow, we can approach Los Gigantes and the Masca gorge. Landing and hiking depend on local conditions. If the passage needs extra time, we take it without chasing the schedule.

8 JanuaryTenerife above the clouds

A final day ashore

With a good weather window, we head towards Teide for lava fields, clouds and island views. Return to our home marina, put the yachts in order and share a farewell dinner. This day also provides a buffer for our return.

9 JanuaryUntil our next ocean

Time to go ashore

Pack and leave the yachts in the morning. We will confirm the exact checkout time before the trip. Head to Tenerife South Airport or stay a few more days on the island.

Every place has
its own sound

I will play when music suits the place and the mood of our crew. Every track in the Canary Islands set was chosen for locations we reached by yacht.

practice

Safety, seamanship and the skipper's mindset. Your next step after coastal sailing.

Explore the Offshore course ↗

Reefing until it becomes second nature, weather and GRIB models, passage planning, watches and crew management. Training takes place during passages and in marinas, for around 30% of expedition time.

600 €An optional addition to the expedition.
Course and delivery of the Offshore licence
What do I need for Offshore?

An Inshore licence and at least 600 nautical miles logged by the end of the course. Previous passages and miles sailed during training count towards the total.

IYT or RYA Inshore qualifications can be converted to ISS through our school. Conversion and issue cost €450.

If you are unsure, message me directly: we will discuss your experience and whether the course is right for you.

10 / BEFORE YOU GO

A few useful
answers

Can I join without experience? +

Yes. We will help you settle in, explain the essentials and involve you in crew life. The offshore course is a separate option.

What about seasickness? +

The Atlantic can be lively even in good weather. Tell us about your experience beforehand so we can discuss preparation and the first passages. Ask a doctor or pharmacist about suitable personal remedies.

Is Gran Canaria guaranteed? +

No. Our main plan is Tenerife, La Gomera and La Palma. Gran Canaria is a weather-dependent alternative that would change the other days.

How do I book a place? +

Message Anton with “Canary Islands”. We will choose a yacht, check availability and agree payment and travel details. Book flights after your place is confirmed.
